Keyboard Adapter Structure

Disclosed is a structure providing a keyboard for use with a
computing device having a display screen without a keyboard.

The Figure is an isometric view of the keyboard adapter 10,
showing the keyboard unit 12 fully extended to the front, in the
direction of arrow 14.  The upper surfaces of keys 16 extend
generally along a plane which is tilted upward toward the rear at a
15-degree angle.  The rear portion of adapter 10 is formed by a
housing 18, which provides an upper surface 20 on which the computing
device (not shown) may be placed.

Housing 18 includes a front slot 22, into which keyboard unit
12 is slid, through the use of a pair of support rail structures 24.
A detent ball 26, held in contact with one of these rail structure 24
by means of a compression spring 28, operates in a pair of
depressions
30 to hold keyboard unit 12 in either a fully extended position, as
shown, or in a fully retracted position inside housing 18.  A handle
32 is provided to facilitate movement between these two positions.

A cable (not shown) from keyboard unit 12 is stored within a
storage area 34, to be fed upward through a slot 36 for attachment to
the computing device.

The keyboard adapter 10 may also be fastened within a docking
station (not shown), using four attachment holes 38.  Vents 40
provide
for the flow of air from the adapter 10 into the docking station.
