Intelligent Mouse

Disclosed is the capability for a mouse pointing device on a
computer to store program objects and user security information.

As shown in the Figure, the mouse has a mircroprocessor, RAM
for storing the objects, and ROM for stored program control.  For
user convenienceand portability, communication between the mouse and
the computer is via wireless, infra-red communication.  The
communication channel is bi-directional.

When performing cut and paste actions, copies of objects are
stored within and returned from the mouse.  These objects may be cut
on one computer and then pasted to another as the user carries the
mouse between computers.

The mouse may contain a security code within the memory to
identify the user who owns the mouse.  Uses of this security code
include:
o  Provides a password for access to programs.
o  Provides permission levels which limit or allow access to
      specific capabilities of a program.
o  Identifies the user so that the software interface of the
computer can be automatically customized to the settings
      associated with that user.
