Abstract

Disclosed is a design for the flexible cable with the stiffener (Plate) and the connector for Hard Disk Drives (HDD). The stiffener of the flexible cable described here will prevent loosen of the connector. The stiffener of flexible cable that connects the spindle motor and the head to Printed Circuit Board (PCB) will be stretched towards the connector for VCM/actuator so that the connector for the spindle motor will not loosen outside. Therefore, this will prevent that the electrical contact will be bad.

Connector Lock with Extended Stiffener Plate

      Disclosed is a design for the flexible cable with the stiffener
(Plate) and the connector for Hard Disk Drives (HDD).  The stiffener
of the flexible cable described here will prevent loosen of the
connector.  The stiffener of flexible cable that connects the spindle
motor and the head to Printed Circuit Board (PCB) will be stretched
towards the connector for VCM/actuator so that the connector for the
spindle motor will not loosen outside.  Therefore, this will prevent
that the electrical contact will be bad.

      The Figure describes this.  The spindle motor connector which
has four pins will easily be loosened by tension of flexible cable.
By stretching the stiffener of the spindle motor connector as in
Figure (b), The spindle motor connector will be connected tightly by
the stiffener of VCM/Actuator connector and not cause poor electrical
contact due to loose-fitting connector.  The connector for the
spindle motor has only four pins and therefore has less friction
compared to the VCM/Actuator connector.  The tension of the flexible
cable pulls the connector and sometimes loosens the connector.
Therefore, the electrical contact is bad.  Stretching the stiffener
on the connector will prevent this.

In this way, poor electrical contact at the connector can be
established at no extra cost.
