Bias Magnet Rotary Support Metal

      This article describes a bias magnet rotary support metal of
magneto-optical disk drive.  It is mounted beyond VCM and removes
magnetic interference between VCM and Bias magnet.

      The Figure shows the example of this apparatus.  Generally,
magneto-optical disk drives have VCM (4) as a method of seeking and
tracking.  It yields strong magnetic field around itself.  At the
same time, permanent-magnet type bias magnet(9) sometimes is used.
This bias magnet uses magnetic field as a power source of rotating
itself for switching erase/write mode as well as supplying the bias
magnet field for media.  In this case, the strong magnetic field from
VCM (4) reaches to the bias magnet(9) and to disturbs the rotation of
the bias magnet(9).  By applying this bias magnet rotary support
metal(8), most of magnetic field run into magnetic field support
metal and returns to VCM(4), because its material has ferromagnetism.
Thus, the magnet rotary support metal(8) works as a magnetic shield
for bias magnet(9).
