Disclosed is a new head and disk merge tool in Hard Disk Drive (HDD) assembling. This head merge method with ramp is to achieve low cost easily in low profile HDD. Besides, it is possible to remove the actuator with the disk for rework. Additionally, if the ramp is used for dynamic load/unload, it is possible to use it as a tool.

New Head/Disk Merge Tool and Merge Method

      Disclosed is a new head and disk merge tool in Hard Disk Drive
(HDD) assembling.  This head merge method with ramp is to achieve low
cost easily in low profile HDD.  Besides, it is possible to remove
the actuator with the disk for rework.  Additionally, if the ramp is
used for dynamic load/unload, it is possible to use it as a tool.

      Each component in this system is shown in Fig. 1.  The ramp has
a sloped surface for head merge.  Fig. 2 shows a side-view of head
load and unload.  The tab of HSA moves up and down along the slope
for the head load/unload.

      This ramp is used between position "G" and "H" by the slide
shown as Figs. 3, 4, and 5.  Being actuator rotated, the head and
disk are merged.  At the "H" position, it is possible to remove the
actuator for rework.

      As another option for head merge, it is possible that the ramp
slide from "H" position to "G" position, holding the actuator.  In
this
method, radial velocity of the head does not occur.
