Card Carrier Assembly

      A mechanical leverage and fastening system for a controller
card assembly in a Direct Access Storage Device (DASD) subsystem is
described.

      Disclosed is a subassembly used to mount a controller card (1)
into a DASD subsystem.  The carrier (2) has features to allow for the
attachment of the latches (3) used in the card assemblies (Fig. 1).

      These latches provide insertion and removal leverage necessary
to auto-dock the 120-pin connector used in the subsystem.  The
latches also perform the fastening function in the subassembly,
allowing for tool-free removal and replacement.  A puck (4) is used
in
two places to  fasten the latches and has been designed symmetrically
to allow its use twice instead of using two separate parts.

      The carrier has extra holes for the capability of mounting
either an additional card, or a card of a larger or smaller size.
The use of the latches and pucks can also be easily adapted to other
assemblies because of the minimum of design features required to
allow the latches to operate (Fig. 2).
