Electrical Control of Vapor Pressure Type Thermostatic Valve Actuator

      Vapor pressure type valve actuators are set by mechaniclly
adjusting a linkage.  However, an electrical heater encapsulated in
the sensing bulb allows the remote setting of the actuator.

      Referring to the Figure, when a controller wants to move the
actuator, an electrical current is applied to the heater, which is
immersed in the control fluid inside the sensing bulb.  The heated
fluid evaporates and expands into the bellows.  This compresses the
bellows and moves the actuator linkage, which moves a valve or other
mechanism.  The movement of the actuator is proportional to the
electrical current supplied to the heater.
