Sysplex Workload Data Reports

This proposal relates to a process (software) to display the
workload of an IBM/390* computer complex (sysplex).  The process is
used in program RMF 5.1.0.

Workload data today are gathered and reported for a single
computer, the reports being compiled on the computer whose workload
is the subject of the report or on another computer which requests
the data from the (remote) computer.  Dataset Support or computer
communication are available for Remote Reporting.

A sysplex (MVS 5.1.0 or higher) distributes the workload among
the computers forming part of the computer complex according to a
Service Policy in order to achieve the desired throughput and
response time.  In the Service Policy the computing center lays down,
for example, transaction priorities and response times for the
various workloads (e.g., data-bank interrogation).  Each computer in
the sysplex works with the same Service Policy: the targets in the
Policy have sysplex-wide validity.

The MVS component WLM (Workload Manager) then distributes the
workload spatially (to various computers) and chronologically in such
a way as to achieve the targets laid down in the Service Policy.  For
this purpose workload data such as the number of transactions are
measured and compared.

WLM supplies both these measured data (workload data) and the
Service Policy via an interface.  This is done for each computer, as
there is no central sysplex WLM component.  However, for a complete
sysplex workload picture it is necessary to combine information from
all participating systems.  This is effected by the process in this
proposal.

Workload data are arranged in accordance with the Service
Policy (service classes, periods etc.), this arrangement applying to
all computers in the sysplex.  Therefore only data belonging to the
same Service Policy can be collated, and the RMF gatherers store:
  o  workload data
  o  and the Service Policy
  and the following process applies:
o  workload data are collected chronologically if the same Service
Policy is active in the given time interval
o  they are collated spatially (from various computers) if the
computers are working with the same Service Policy.  The RMF
sysplex Data Server is used to collect data from another
sysplex
      computer.

The new reports no longer give sight of a local system,
providing instead an overview of the entire sysplex.  The data
necessary for this are requested from all systems via the ERB3XDRS
interface and collated into a single data structure.

Extended Cursor Sensitivity Navigation (pressing Enter in a report
field) then permits:
o  either the display of a further new sysplex report showing more
      particular sysplex-wide data
o  or the display of a report showing the data from a single
      computer as more particular data.

The data are then di...
