The icons in the Figures are used in IBM* software, such as
High Performance Transaction System* (HPTS), on personal computers
running OS/2* Presentation Manager*.  HPTS automates check processing
by using images of paper documents.  HPTS includes applications which
use these images in order to significantly increase document
processing efficiency compared to conventional paper-based methods.
Icons may advantageously include color features, although color is
not shown in the Figures.

The Adjustment Dialog Box Icon in Fig. 1 indicates means for an
operator to make the necessary adjustments to bring an "out of
balanced" transaction into balance.  Visually, the icon includes a
balancing scale symbol which is out of balance and an arrow symbol
pointing downward to indicate that the scale can be bought into
balance (e.g., adjusted).

The Transaction Window Icon in Fig. 1 indicates means for
displaying the relevant information and windows (e.g., images, adding
machine tapes, system data, etc.) associated with a transaction which
is "out of balance."  Visually, the icon includes a balancing scale
symbol which is out of balance.

The Balancing Main Window Icon in Fig. 1 is used to represent
the HPTS  Balancing application.  This application enables an
operator to displaying information and images that are associated
with a group or batch of work (e.g., various transaction groups).
Visually, the icon includes a balancing scale symbol which is
initially in a balanced position.

The Item Image Icon in Fig. 1 indicates means for an operator
to display the image (e.g., check, deposit slip, etc.,) associated
with a given transaction item.  Visually, the icon includes a
balancing
scale symbol with an image of a check symbol superimposed thereon.

The Credit Display Icon in Fig. 1 indicates means for an
operator to display information (e.g., debits and credits) that is
associated with a given transaction group or batch.  Visually, the
icon includes a balancing scale symbol with the back image of a
credit card symbol superimposed thereon.

The Work In Progress (WIP) Balancing Icon in Fig. 1 indicates
means for an operator to display the progress of work as it flows
through the HPTS Balancing application.  Visually, the icon includes
a partial balancing scale symbol along with an arrow symbol which is
pointing to the right to denote WIP.

The Restart and Recovery Icon in Fig. 2 indicates means for an
operator to restart the HPTS Data Preparation application in the
event that it has inadvertently ended.  Visually, the icon includes a
paper document symbol with two arrow symbols pointing up and down to
represent data flowing to and from the application.

The Missing Item Icon in Fig. 2 indicates means for an operator
to display all the items in the HPTS Statement application which have
been labeled by the system as being "missing."  Visually, the icon
