Bended Mount Plate for Fixing Suspension in Hard Disk System

      Disclosed is a new head mount plate design for head gram load
stable in Hard Disk Drives (HDD).

      Usually a Head assembly is fixed carriage by swage.  An
actuator assembly is shown in Fig. 1.  The conventional swage uses a
mount plate having a swage boss which can be deformed by a swage
ball.  A suspension is sandwiched between a mount plate and an
actuator arm, and the swage boss is inserted in a hall of the
actuator arm.  Then a swage ball goes through the hall of the mount
plate boss.  Then the boss is deformed, and the suspension can be
fixed on the carriage.  But not only the mount plate boss but also
the surrounding area of the mount plate boss can be deformed by the
ball
passing.  Mount plate deformation makes the head gram load instable.

      Head gram load is one of the most important factors for
determining the head flying height because the instability of the
head gram load increases the soft error rate of HDD system.
Consequently, it is very important to control the head gram load.

      This article describes a new mount plate structure which can
reduce the deformation of the surrounding area of the boss.  As shown
in Fig. 2, the new mount plate has ribs on both sides of the plate.
With these ribs, the stiffness of the plate increases.  Then the
deformation of the plate can be reduced.
