Flex Cable Bias Control Method

      Using heat to form the dynamic area of a disk drive actuator
flex cable to create a neutral, mid-band radius to reduce maximum
flex cable bias is described.

      During the flex cable manufacturing process (after lamination),
the dynamic region is placed in a form tool and heated, thus
permanently shaping the dynamic area into a radiused condition.  This
radius would likely be equal to the radius of the flex cable when the
actuator is at the middle of the disk drive's data band when in its
functional state.

      The formed radius could also be sized to offset actuator
windage or any other unwanted bias.

      Forming of the cable can also be done by applying heat to the
flex cable after assembly into the disk drive.

      Temperature and duration of the heating process are highly
dependent upon the flex cable material.
