Abstract

A T1 network generates an error code in case of failure. It's the responsibility of the line interface coupler attached to the network to detect the error code and to react accordingly. The objective of the T1 advanced diagnostics is to generate these error conditions in place of the network to validate the associated software.

Advanced Diagnostics for T1 Line Interface Coupler

      A T1 network generates an error code in case of failure.  It's
the responsibility of the line interface coupler attached to the
network to detect the error code and to react accordingly.  The
objective of the T1 advanced diagnostics is to generate these error
conditions in place of the network to validate the associated
software.

The advantages of the current solution - In addition to the current
diagnostics functions, the T1 advanced diagnostics improve the
testing at network line level by performing the following tasks:
  o  Generate T1 network error conditions on the network transmit
line
  o  Verify their detection on the network receive line at the framer
      level

      COUPLER HARDWARE DESIGN - The design of a T1 Line Interface
Coupler (LIC) is based on two main components, a Line Interface Unit
(LIU) and a framer.  As an example, a functional block diagram is
shown in Fig. 1.

      COUPLER ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS CONFIGURATION - The idea is to use
one internal output port of a microcontroller in the wrap
configuration shown in Fig. 2.

The principle of this operation follows:
  o  One internal output port of a microcontroller is used for the
