Breather Filter Structure having Diffusion Channel on Plate

      Disclosed is a structure for breather filter in Hard Disk Drive
(HDD).  Breather filter mainly composed of two portions, mold portion
which has air diffusion channel and non-mold portion as chemical
filter to absorb the harmful substance in air.

      This breather filter has a structure that the diffusion channel
is formed on top cover of HDD to reduce the height of breather filter
and cost.

      The component in this structure are shown in Fig. 1.  Air
diffusion channel is shaped on top cover of HDD by press, casting or
machining etc with adhesive seal.  The chemical filter is attached to
the reverse side of top cover.  The shape of this air diffusion
channel is linear, spiral or nonlinear etc., which enable to place
the filter anywhere with full diffusion path.  Breather filter does
not have mold portion by using this structure, therefore the
thickness of breather filter or HDD becomes thinner and the
restriction of space or plane in HDD is removed.  Fig. 2 is a cross
section of this breather filter structure.  The cost reduction of
breather filter is expected for using only chemical filter.

      The place of breather filter is not limited to the top cover.
For example base side or bottom surface is used for constructing the
breather filter.
