Abstract

Disclosed is a method for improving the resistance of a hardfile to mechanical shock during a write operation. With this method, the data in adjacent tracks is read and stored before a write operation is attempted. If a mechanical shock occurs during the write operation, causing the head to move so that adjacent tracks are overwritten, this data can be rewritten.

Method for Improving Shock-Resistance in a Hardfile

Disclosed is a method for improving the resistance of a
hardfile to mechanical shock during a write operation.  With this
method, the data in adjacent tracks is read and stored before a write
operation is attempted.  If a mechanical shock occurs during the
write operation, causing the head to move so that adjacent tracks are
overwritten, this data can be rewritten.

This method is particularly useful when applied to the hardfile
of a portable or tablet computer, in which relatively small shocks
can cause a loss of data during a write operation without mechanical
damage to the hardfile.
