AS/400 Message Subfile as a Graphical User Interface Part

A workstation graphical user interface part which is an
enhanced functional equivalent to an AS/400* Message Subfile is
disclosed.

The message subfile part is a window frame extension that
resides inside, and at the bottom of a window frame.  It is a
multi-line information area with list box capabilities.  Each message
added to the message subfile is displayed as one list entry.  More
than one message in the list can be viewed at a time.  Scroll bars
are provided to allow an end user to view different sections of the
list.  An entry can be selected by the end user.

of six messages are being viewed.  The third message is in a selected
state.

A programming interface allows a programmer to:
o  Add a message by specifying a text string and optional text
      substitution parameters
  o  Remove a message
  o  Select a message
  o  Deselect a message
o  Obtain the contents of a message
o  Obtain the index of a selected message
o  Obtain the total number of messages
o  Set the height of the message subfile within the window frame
o  Set the font of the text within the message subfile
o  Set the message subfile's background color

The programming interface allows a programmer to specify text
substitution strings.  In the above example, for the message "Today
