Programmable Answering System using "Caller ID"

Disclosed is a very simple and extremely useful idea for a
programmable answering system.  The system uses the caller ID
mechanism that has recently been provided by the telephone companies.

Conventional telephone answering systems generally play the
same greeting message for all callers.  However, it is desirable to
provide a message selectively based on who calls.  Most computers can
be hooked to telephone lines and receive incoming calls.  Once a
caller's name has been identified using the "caller ID", the
corresponding audio message is played back for the caller.  In this
manner selective messages may be delivered to incoming callers.
