Fast Take-Off and High-Stiffness Fluid Bearing

      The groove geometry provides a good compromise in achieving
fast take-off and high-stiffness.

      Fast take-off and high-stiffness are two necessary requirements
in a fluid bearing.

      A shallow groove is needed for achieving fast take-off.
However, it also gives low-stiffness.  A deeper groove is required to
provide higher stiffness.  Engineers are asked to make compromise
based upon specific operating environment.  The current invention
proposes to put two sets of grooves on the bearing surface.  The
first set shall be shallow, whereas the second set has deep groove.
They will be arranged in an alternate fashion.  That is a shallow
groove is sandwiched between two deep grooves.
