Separable RJ11 Connector for a Personal Computer Memory Card International
Association Modem Card

Disclosed is an RJ11 (telephone type) connector which is
integrated with, but separable from, a modem card built according to
the specifications of the Personal Computer Memory Card International
Association (PCMCIA).

The Figure is an isometric view of the connector 10 in an
exploded relationship with the modem card 12, which is configured for
insertion in the direction of arrow 14 into a slot of a computing
device (not shown).  When the card 12 is fully inserted in this way,
a number of conductors extending in receptacles (also not shown) of
the insertion end 16 of the card are brought into contact with
various pins in a socket of the computing device, and the connector
10 is exposed outside the slot for attachment of a telephone line
(also not shown).

Connector 10 is held in engagement with card 12 by means of
electrical conductors 18 and plastic pins extending into mating holes
20 in the end of card 12.  If sufficient force is applied to
connector 10, it pulls or snaps out of engagement with card 12, to be
subsequently reconnected, or replaced if broken.  In this way, damage
to the card 12 is avoided.
