Abstract

Displayed is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) viewing mechanism which displays auto-scaled two-dimensional graphs of data of interest, where data can be depicted as dots, connected by lines, or represented as axis-relative bars (Figure). Coordinated x-axis and y-axis data lists are displayed to right of graphed data.

Axis Registration Lines

      Displayed is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) viewing mechanism
which displays auto-scaled two-dimensional graphs of data of
interest, where data can be depicted as dots, connected by lines, or
represented as axis-relative bars (Figure).  Coordinated x-axis and
y-axis data lists are displayed to right of graphed data.

      As the user points to graphed data with a mouse, pressing a
mouse button causes axis registration lines to display, originating
at the data point nearest the cursor position and terminating in a
boxed display of the selected data point X and Y values after the
lines cross each coordinate axis.  Concurrently, with display of the
registration lines, the selected data points are highlighted in the
co-displayed data X and Y value lists.  As long as the mouse button
is depressed, the registration lines and data lists track the
movement of the cursor about the area of the data graph.

      Alternatively, the user can select the data of interest from
the displayed data lists to the right of the graphed data, which will
cause the axis registration lines to appear at the correct location
on the graph.
