Three-Dimensional Liquid Crystal Color Projector

      Disclosed is a device for Liquid Crystal Projector which
displays three-dimensional images or bright two-dimensional images
efficiently.

      Fig. 1 shows a conventional type Liquid Crystal projector which
has a three-color (RGB) Liquid Crystal panel as a light valve.  The
50% of the light emitted from the light source is wasted by the
polarizer
at the Liquid Crystal.

      Fig. 2 shows an example of this system.  The light from the
light source is separated to P-wave and S-wave by a Polarizing Beam
Splitter A and lead to the Liquid Crystal light valve A and B,
respectively.  These liquid crystal panels have polarizing angle by
90 degree for P-wave and S-wave.  Both light beams are merged at the
Polarizing Beam Splitter B and projected to the screen by the
projection lens.  When a two-dimensional image signal is applied to
this system, Liquid crystal light valve A and B are driven by the
same signal and all light from the light source is used to display
the image brightly.  When a three-dimensional image signal is applied
to this system, liquid crystal panel A and B are driven by a
right-eye image and left eye image, respectively.  The right-eye
image
and the left eye-image are projected on the screen with 90 degree
polarizing angle.  Operator or audience see the image on the screen
through three-dimensional glasses which have polarizing lenses for
