Improved Exclusive Control of Distributed Document Management System

Disclosed is a program for distributed document management
system over Local Area Network (LAN) with improved method for
exclusive control.  This method is for a system such that keeps
exclusive information in a file on a server-computer.  With this,
users and LAN manager can keep easily consistency of documents being
updated by around a hundreds of users.

Former usual document management system which comes under the
case described above has an Exclusive Information File on a
file-server.  The file contains document name entries and each entry
describes a-document-in-use by a user.  The document management
system works with exclusive information file as described below:
  1.  User logs onto distributed document management system.
  2.  User at a client-computer requests Open-a-Document.
  3.  Document management system program checks Exclusive Information
File to know if the document is used by another or not.
  4.  If the document name is not in a file, system program writes
the
       document name into the file.
  5.  If the name already exists there, system program does not allow
       user to use the document.

This type of system has a problem that exclusive information
file could get inconsistency.  Document name entries sometimes remain
in exclusive control file, although user has been finished operation
with those documents in cases below.  Users cannot use those
documents again until LAN manager recovers exclusive information file
in this system.
  1.  User often turns computer off (by accident) witho...
