Thin Film Horizontal Head with Enhanced Write Characteristics for
Magnetic Recording

      This invention incorporates a high moment magnetic layer in the
pole structure of horizontal, thin film magnetic recording heads such
as inductive-write inductive-read and inductive write
magnetoresistive read heads to enhance the write characteristics for
high density magnetic recording applications.

      The pole structures of horizontal, thin film heads are made
with one or more layers of high moment materials such as Co or Fe
alloys and conventional NiFe to enhance the write characteristics
without degrading the read characteristics of the head.  The Figure
illustrates the new head structure (1,2).
