Intelligent Power Control Method

      Disclosed is a power control method for information equipment,
especially for a storage device such as Direct Access Storage Device
(DASD), to save power consumption.  The improved equipment has power
control function based on the forecasted usage of a storage device,
which is derived from the data usage history and the data location.

      The storage device power is controlled by the following
formula, when the device stores data numbered from one to N.
    Power(t) = f(1,t) OR f(2,t) OR f(3,t) OR ..........OR f(n,t)
  while   Power(t)=  1, The device power is turned ON at time t.
                     0, The device power is turned OFF at time t.
           f(n,t) =  1, Data(n) usage forecast is positive at time t.
                     0, Data(n) usage forecast is negative at time t.

      The " f " is the data usage forecast formula derived from the
statistical method by using the data usage history, based on the
calendar based cyclic reappearance possibility.

      Figs. 1 and 2 show function " f " logic for Data(N).  Fig. 1
shows two forecasted data usage patterns (A,A*,B,B*) derived from the
data usage frequency histories, and some of the original data usage
frequency histories.  Fig. 2 shows formula " f " logic and the result
in the case X.  It shows the data usage forecast is effective, and it
