Abstract

Disclosed is a structure design for Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) backlight which has the shortest distance from LCD module outside edge to active display area. This structure gets more efficient lighting by fixed lamp position exactly. The LCD module outline is getting smaller and smaller. Flange and lamp overlap each other. Also, securing a space to set a lamp is very difficult at opposite side of inverter. The inverter side has a little margin because of the inverter space.

New Structure Design for Liquid Crystal Display Backlight

      Disclosed is a structure design for Liquid Crystal Display
(LCD) backlight which has the shortest distance from LCD module
outside edge to active display area.  This structure gets more
efficient lighting by fixed lamp position exactly.  The LCD module
outline is getting smaller and smaller.  Flange and lamp overlap each
other.  Also, securing a space to set a lamp is very difficult at
opposite side of inverter.  The inverter side has a little margin
because of the inverter space.

      The Figure shows the example of this new structure design for
LCD backlight.  New designed backlight housing and lamp socket are
assembled, and are covered by LCD bezel.  So, a wall thickness of
backlight housing is able to be removed, and this structure realizes
more efficient lighting to fix lamp position because lamp socket is
fixed in the backlight housing directly.  The lamp-length clearance
at the opposite side of the inverter is possible to be set to minimum
zero, and lamp length tolerance will appear on the inverter side
only.

      Therefore, if the new designed structure of this backlight is
adapted, it is possible to shorten the distance from the outside edge
of the LCD module to active the display area at the opposite side of
the inverter.  Therefore, more efficient lighting will be realized.
