Reset Circuit in the Battery over Discharge Protection Circuit

      Disclosed is a reset circuit in the battery over discharge
protection circuit.

      In general, notebook Personal Computer (PC) has a main battery
as a power source normally, and also has a battery over discharge
protection circuit.  This circuit monitors the battery's voltage and
lets the battery stop discharging when the battery voltage becomes
below a predetermined voltage, so that the over discharge of the
battery is effectively prevented.  The period when the battery
discharge stops (protection mode) has to be kept as far as the same
battery is attached, and should be reset only when the battery is
exchanged for another one.  However, according to the battery
characteristics,  the battery's voltage rises instantaneously when
the battery's output current becomes small.  From the battery over
discharge protection circuit, this may be looked as if the battery is
detached and attached to reset the detector.  This occurs when the
over discharge protection circuit works.  Therefore, in the previous
over discharge protection circuit, the reset function works not only
when the battery is exchanged but also soon after the protection
circuit works.  With this invention, the reset function works only
when the battery is exchanged.
