Battery Voltage Sense System

      Disclosed is a circuit to clearly identify the battery
disconnect state in battery backed-up systems.

      By providing additional contact between battery and battery
voltage sense system, charging circuit is absolutely separated with
battery voltage sense circuit when battery is disconnected.  Then
battery voltage sense circuit can clearly detect battery disconnected
state because sense voltage becomes zero.

      The Figure shows the example of this circuit.  Additional
contact (1) for battery voltage sense circuit (2) is provided to
separate battery charging circuit (3) from battery voltage sense
circuit when the battery (4) is disconnected.  If voltage sense
circuit might be tied to charging circuit together, sense voltage
would rise to upper limit of charging voltage and voltage sense
circuit could not detect absence of battery.
