Abstract

Disclosed is a device of dot impact print head. This print head functions as high speed 9 dot head, and it changes to high quality 16 dot head by tilting its angle against head moving direction. Furthermore, it can print ruled lines and 16 dot font characters at the same time. Tilting reverse, it changes to 9 dot head again. As for head tilt method, (*) shows simple mechanism.

Tilting Print Head with Isolated Dot

      Disclosed is a device of dot impact print head.  This print
head functions as high speed 9 dot head, and it changes to high
quality 16 dot head by tilting its angle against head moving
direction.  Furthermore, it can print ruled lines and 16 dot font
characters at the same time.  Tilting reverse, it changes to 9 dot
head again.  As for head tilt method, (*) shows simple mechanism.

      Fig. 1 shows the wire layout of this print head.  Length
dimension is inch.  When the head moves to left-up 15 degrees or
opposite, 2 wires correspond to 1 dot.  So, this head shows twice
performance of normal 9 wire head.  When it moves to right-up 15
degree or opposite, 16 dots can print high quality characters like
Kanji and 2 isolated dots can print ruled lines at the same time.
Isolated dot pitch is 1/6 inch and there is one space dot between
character and ruled line.

      Fig. 2 shows both font samples of the head.  Arrow shows the
moving of head when ruled lines are required.  In case of normal
(without isolated dot) head, one path of head moving is required for
one ruled line.  Fig. 3 shows how many times head moves in each case
of normal head and this invented head with isolated dot.  It shows
twice performance of normal one because head moving is half times.

      This invention is especially useful for Point of Sale (POS)
printer application for Double-Byte Character Set (DBCS) country.
