Abstract

Disclosed is a system for Video Tape Recorder which is implemented with hard disk drive(HDD) to store digitalized audio/video data. It can simultaneously reproduce the multiple video/audio data, which can synchronously reproduce of those data starting from any selected frame. The HDD is also used as a temporally data buffer for non-linear editing of digital audio/video data before they are stored into video tape.

Video Tape Recorder with Hard Disk Drive

Disclosed is a system for Video Tape Recorder which is
implemented with hard disk drive(HDD) to store digitalized
audio/video data.  It can simultaneously reproduce the multiple
video/audio data, which can synchronously reproduce of those data
starting from any selected frame.  The HDD is also used as a
temporally data buffer for non-linear editing of digital audio/video
data before they are stored into video tape.

Fig. 1 is the schematic diagram of an analog video tape
recorder with HDD.  Video signals from TUNER(1), VIDEO-IN terminal(2)
or VIDEO-OUT terminal(9) are multiplexed by INPUT MPX(3).  This
selected video signal is digitized by a digital video encoder(4) and
stored into HDD's(5).  This video signal is reproduced through
digital VIDEO DECODER(6) which transform the digital video data to
analog video signal.  Also there is a conventional VIDEO TAPE
RECORDER(7) that stores the analog video signal.  These analog
signals from (6) and (7) are selected by an OUT-MPX(8) and supplied
to television through analog VIDEO-OUT terminal(9).

Fig. 2 is the schematic diagram of a digital video tape
recorder with HDD.  Video signals from TUNER(1) and VIDEO-IN
terminal(2) are multiplexed by an INPUT MPX1(4).  This selected
analog video signal is digitized by a digital VIDEO ENCODER(5).  This
digitized video signal, external DIGITAL VIDEO-IN(3) signal, and
DIGITAL VIDEO-OUT(11) signal are multiplexed b...
