Texture Generator using Parametric Curves

      Disclosed is an algorithm for generating a variety of textures
using parametric curves for defined convex polygonal regions.

      Fig. 1 shows the procedure flow of the disclosed algorithm.
First, each defined polygon is scaled by t, centered on its center of
gravity.

      The scaled polygon is then formed into a curved polygon (named
region S) by means of a B-spline function [Expander] (Fig. 2).

      Next, as shown in Fig. 3, height data H are generated at each
point P in the region S by using an Hermite curve to interpolate
between point A, which is the intersection of the boundary curve of
region S and the line connecting W and P, and point B, which is
located vertically above W at a distance V (Swelling Module).

      These height data are stored in the data buffer through the
storing module, and finally converted into a color value or bump data
by means of the converter.

Fig. 4 shows sample textures generated by the disclosed algorithm.
