Enable Storing Partially Completed Forms on the World Wide Web

Disclosed is a technique for a web browser to save partially
completed forms.

To save a partially completed form, the browser performs the
following steps:
  1.  Read the data the user has entered.
  2.  Save the document together with the user's data in the default
section of the associated field.  Hypertext Markup Language
       (HTML) provides this capability.
  3.  Save the Universal Resource Locator (URL) of the document.
This
URL enables the browser to rebuild its internal state
describing
the originator of the document; that is, establishing the link
to
the server of the document without actually connect to the
       server.

To reopen the document, the browser performs the following steps:
  1.  Read the document from the client machine.
  2.  Establish the URL to the server.
  3.  Display the document.
