Fiber Optic Coupled Direct Access Storage Device Electronics

      A signal coupling system is disclosed.

As shown in the Figure, this signal coupling system is comprised of
three elements:
  o  A specially designed arm electronics module whose purpose is to
      power amplify low level head signals and convert them to a
light
      signal suitable for coupling to a fiber optic cable or strand.
  o  The fiber optic cable.
  o  The signal processing electronics and fiber optic receiver.

This system has many advantages and solves some of the tougher
problems plaguing development of future arrayed direct access storage
devices.  The essential feature of the system is that processing
electronics can now be located some distance from the Disk Enclosure
(DE).
