Personal Computer Memory Card International Association Frame/Cover
Design

Disclosed is a frame/cover design that meets the Personal
Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) PC Standard
2.0.  The PCMCIA has established a series of requirements that
frame/cover assemblies must meet in the PCMCIA PC Card standard 2.0.

The design consists of two stainless steel covers (top and
bottom) and a polycarbonate frame (Figure).  The stainless steel
covers consist of a series of alternating tabs (1) and clamps (2).
The tabs insert into slots in the frame and the clamps wrap around
the frame (areas 3 and 4 respectively), resulting in a mechanical
bond between the stainless steel covers and the polycarbonate frame.
A heat cured epoxy adhesive is dispensed in the slots (3) to further
secure the stainless steel covers to the polycarbonate frame.  The
entire assembly is then cured.  Testing has shown that this
frame/cover design exceeds the requirements defined in the PCMCIA PC
Card Standard 2.0.
