Snap Fastener for a Book Rail

Disclosed is a snap fastener that locks the covers of an
electronic enclosure.  The fastener slides in a contoured cavity and
plastic springs cause a detenting in the open and closed position for
ease of handling and assembly.

As shown in the Figure, snap fastener 1 slides into contoured
cavity 6 in rail 2.  There is a ledge inside the cavity that confines
snap fastener 1 to lengthwise sliding motion.  The fastener has side
beams 4 and 5 that engage into contours in the cavity, causing a
detenting action in two locations.

When the snap fastener is in the retracted position, rail 2 is
assembled to cover 3 by fitting a groove in the rail to the bevelled
edges of the cover.  After this initial assembly, the snap fastener
is pushed forward and fits into the slot in the cover 3, locking the
rail and cover together.
