Mechanism

      Disclosed is an invention to resolve Head debris accumulation
for Load/Unload mechanism.

      Current hard disk drives are beginning to use smoother disks to
achieve higher capacity.  For this reason, the risk of stiction
between the head and disk is increasing.  A load/unload mechanism has
been proposed in some products.  Although this load/unload mechanism
can solve the stiction problem, the debris' accumulation has become
an issue to be solved.  Conventional contact start stop mode can act
as a cleaning mode for the head's air bearing surface (ABS).  But
such hard disk drives using load/unload mechanism, the head's ABS
does not execute any scrubbing with the disk surface; therefore, any
debris stuck on the ABS cannot be removed on the ABS.  Debris and
contamination on the ABS can reduce the head fly height and can cause
a head crash.

      A method to prevent the accumulation of any material on the
head ABS is proposed.  This invention provides a cleaning mode which
executes a scrubbing the head ABS at the outer disk edge before
loading.  This new cleaning mode can decrease the contamination on
the ABS of the head.

Advantages of this cleaning mode are:
  1.  Cleaning at most outer disk can reduce the risk of remaining
the
       scrubbed materials on the disk (better than Contact Start Stop
       mode at inner disk region).
