Input/Output Processor/System Power Control Network Diagnostic Interface

      IOP    = I/O processor
  BCA X2 = Bus Controller Adapter
  Ctl    = Controller
  SPCN   = System Power Control Network

      The Input/Output Processor/System Power Control Network
(IOP/SPCN) diagnostic interface allows computer systems a technique
to improve reliability and have higher availability.  It extends the
System Power Control Network to each I/O processor in the system.
This allows for better error recovery, diagnosis, service, testing,
etc. when the normal system I/O bus is inoperable.

      This invention uses a series of diagnostic commands that flow
from the system to each I/O processor on a private interface line
between the power controller network and the system I/O processor
cards.  This private interface line is isolated from the normal
system I/O bus, as shown in the Figure.

The architected diagnostic command set includes:
  o  Poll,
  o  Reset
  o  Read Wire test,
  o  Write Wire Test,
  o  IOP Debug
     -  get data
     -  put data
     -  read Asynchronous Error Report (AER)
     -  read error log
     -  read Vital Product Data (VPD)
