Collapsible Menu Bar for a Graphical User Interface Application

Disclosed is a process providing a Graphical User Interface
(GUI) having a menu bar which collapses into a titlebar menu icon
when it is sized at a level insufficient to allow the display of all
menu choices on a single line.  The subsequent selection of this icon
causes the display of a drop-down menu.

Conventionally, when a window is sized to a level too narrow to
display all of the menu choices on a single line, the words of the
menu are wrapped around to be displayed on two or more lines.  This
occurs, for example, when the window size is reduced or when the menu

display all menu choices on a single line.  The cross-hatched area
below the menu bar is used to display all or part of the content of
the application.

Fig. 2 shows the GUI of Fig. 1, resized to a level preventing
the display of all of the menu choices on a single line.  When this
resizing occurs, the menu bar is automatically collapsed into a
titlebar menu icon left of the title.  This icon displays a menu bar,
indicating its usage.

Fig. 3 shows the GUI of Fig. 1 with a drop-down menu, which
appears when the titlebar menu icon is selected by the user with a
mouse or other pointing device.  Fur...
