Mis-Load Cartridge Pin for Tape Drives

      A method for preventing damage to read/write heads in tape
drives due to misloading of tape media cartridges is described.

      A protrusion 1 prevents putting a cartridge in any way but the
correct way to allow nothing but tape to touch the head.  The
protrusion 1 in the chassis 2 can be made of single or multiple
protrusions (Fig. 1).  The protrusion 1 allows the media cartridge to
be fully inserted only in the correct orientation.  The protrusion 1
is located in the cartridge head penetration relief (Fig. 2).
