Safety Motion Base

Disclosed is a virtual reality motion base with a simple
suspension system to eliminate unsafe crush points and pinch points.

Motion bases or platforms are used to give the illusion of
motion or acceleration.  The audience, which may be a single user or
a small group in an auditorium is seated on a motion base which can
moved or rotated in any of six ways.  Some type of visual screen is
provided to show a 'movie' and a sound system is also provided.  By
moving the motion base, the audience is subject to forces that
simulate a real experience.

A typical motion base is controlled by a computer and has
hydraulic mechanisms to move the base.  These mechanisms have many
points where a user could be injured and can only be installed and
used in access controlled environments where an operator controls the
audience such as in amusement parks.  To simulate real life
acceleration forces, the motion base has to have very powerful
actuators which exert tons of force.

For home use, a safer mechanism is needed which does not have
dangerous crush and pinch points.  By suspending the motion base on
cables, all mechanical mechanisms are placed out of reach of the user
and any other bystander.  The only possible crush point is directly
under the base and that can be enclosed by a skirt of some type.

The single user home motion base consists of a bucket seat,
foot rests, computer monitor platform and control pane...
