Abstract

A program for converting a printable dump into a machine processable dump is disclosed. Any type of System/390* print format dump can be converted in to a VM/ESA* VMDUMP format dump, which is processable by the VM/ESA Dump Viewing Facility. VM/ESA The Virtual Machine Enterprise System operating system for IBM System 390 processors. DVF Dump Viewing Facility, a dump analysis tool provided with the VM/ESA operating system. It provides basic dump browsing capabilities plus a flexible macro interface which allows sophisticated automation tools to be created. Data space A virtual storage address space, up to 2 gigabytes in size, all of which is available for data storage by an application program.

Conversion of Printable Format Dumps

A program for converting a printable dump into a machine
processable dump is disclosed.  Any type of System/390* print format
dump can be converted in to a VM/ESA* VMDUMP format dump, which is
processable by the VM/ESA Dump Viewing Facility.
VM/ESA      The Virtual Machine Enterprise System operating system
               for IBM System 390 processors.
DVF         Dump Viewing Facility, a dump analysis tool provided
with the VM/ESA operating system.  It provides basic
dump browsing capabilities plus a flexible macro
interface which allows sophisticated automation tools
               to be created.
Data space  A virtual storage address space, up to 2 gigabytes in
size, all of which is available for data storage by an
application program.  Data spaces are provided to
application programs by the VM/ESA operating system.

An assembler language program parses the print format dump file
to extract the lines that contain storage data.  It then copies this
data into a VM/ESA data space at the same address from which the data
was originally dumped.  When complete, the data space contains an
exact copy of the storage which was originally dumped.  Finally, the
VM/ESA VMDUMP command is used to create a...
