Controlled Shut Down Function on Banking Self Service Machines

Banking self service machines have a Personal Computer (PC),
which controls the complete machine.  Some PCs use operation systems,
which need a shut down before power off.  On the desktop PC, the shut
down is performed by using the mouse or keyboard functions.

The banking machines can have a customer keyboard, but with
this keyboard it must not be allowed to perform a shut down due to
the fact that then every customer can take the machine out of service
by performing a shut down.  Or the machine can have a service
keyboard and/or a mouse for functions performed by the banking
operator.  This keyboard can be used for performing a shut down.
This operator normally doesn't have deep knowledge about the
necessity of a  shut down.  Therefore, the possibility exits that the
operator switches  off the machine directly without performing a shut
down.  In a worst case condition, this leads to an error where a
reinstallation of the complete operation system is required.

The following setup solves this problem.  The main power switch
has a relay in parallel to its contacts.  The status of the switch
(open or closed) is reported to the SW program running on the PC.
The relay is controlled by the running SW program and by an HW timer.

The SW program can switch the relay on and off; the HW timer
only off.  If the machine is powered on and the SW program is
running, the SW...
