Hardware Motion Picture Experts Group DaughterCard Interface Extension

      Disclosed is a cable-less hardware Motion Picture Experts Group
(MPEG) daughtercard interface extension that is used in conjunction
with the various Luminance, Red Minus, Blue Minus (YUV) video data
ports defined by video chip manufacturers.

      The existing YUV video data ports on system motherboards today
do not define enough signals to support a cable-less MPEG
daughtercard upgrade.  The MPEG daughtercard interface extension
defined in this bulletin complements the existing YUV video port and
allows an MPEG daughtercard to be plugged into a computer motherboard
with no cabling needed.  This makes it very easy for a customer to
upgrade their system and the cable-less design also reduces system
cost.

      The MPEG daughtercard interface extension defined in this
bulletin consists of one 2x8 berg strip (Ex: AMP(*) P/N 146145-8,
Molex(**) 10-96-7165).  The MPEG daughtercard plugs into both this
connector and the existing YUV video data port connector in the
system.  Since the MPEG daughtercard uses both connectors, this
places a restriction on the type of connector that can be used for
the YUV video data port.  An acceptable connector for the YIV video
data port is a 0.225" high stake pin berg strip.  The number of pins
is dependent on the definition of the YUV video data port.  Note that
the types of connectors used for the video port and MPEG daughtercard
extension may vary...
