Abstract

Disclosed is a battery pack which has a FLASH memory and real-time clock inside. With this battery, when the battery is not used, the fuel-gauge related data are stored in the FLASH memory and the fuel gauge circuit does not operate nor consume the power. There is no current flow from the main battery, so that the main battery never becomes over discharged state because. In addition, the real time clock, which is backed up by the coin battery, is helpful to get time related information of the battery pack.

      Disclosed is a battery pack which has a FLASH memory and
real-time clock inside.  With this battery, when the battery is not
used, the fuel-gauge related data are stored in the FLASH memory and
the fuel gauge circuit does not operate nor consume the power.  There
is no current flow from the main battery, so that the main battery
never becomes over discharged state because.  In addition, the real
time clock, which is backed up by the coin battery, is helpful to get
time related information of the battery pack.

      The Figure shows a block diagram that embodies the present
invention.  A battery pack comprises a main battery cells, a fuel
gauge circuit, a FLASH memory, a real time clock, a transceiver, a
DC/DC converter for the above circuits, and a back up circuit for the
real time clock.  When the battery pack is charged or discharged, the
DC/DC converter is enabled by the DC/DC enable signal.  The reason is
that, in the above condition, the signal is pulled-up by 5V in the
system.  When the battery pack is not discharged nor charged, the
DC/DC enable signal disables the DC/DC converter and cuts the current
flow from the main battery cells for the fuel gauge related circuit.
In this condition, there is no current flow from the battery cells,
so that the main battery never becomes over-discharged state even if
the pack is left for a long time.  The real-time clock is used to get
