Low Profile Center Mount Head Gimbal Assembly and Comb Attachment

      This invention incorporates an integrated conductor suspension,
slotted comb for center mounting of Head Gimbal Assemblies (HGA), and
a solder process for mechanical and/or electrical connection between
the comb and the HGA.  This permits a highly automated assembly
process and minimizes disk to disk spacing for increased storage
capacity.

      The HGA is an integrated conductor suspension with no base
plate.  It is mounted in the center of each arm using a comb with
slots.  The HGA is attached to the arm using a 90º  solder reflow
process.  The combination of mechanical support from the slotted arm
structure and the solder attachment process provide sufficient joint
strength to hold the HGA in the required position.  Additionally, a
flex cable could extend the full length of the arm and its
terminations coincide with the HGA terminations.  The Figure
illustrates the new HGA-comb structure an attachment process.
