Multi-Functional Optical Disk Drive

      Disclosed is a method for utilizing the mechanism for two
different standard types of optical disks.

      The Figure shows an example of this apparatus.  The optical
beam (1) from the optical head (1) which contains a light source and
sensors goes to the prism (2).  Prism (2) divides the beam into two
directions (3,4).  Each beam (3,4) goes to each objective lens (5,6)
and focuses on each disk (7,8).  These disks (7,8) are rotated by a
single spindle motor (9).  This spindle motor (9) can attach
different types of hubs (10,11) at each end of its spinning shaft in
order to mount different types of optical disks (7,8), such as the
hole hub type or magnetic hub type.  Objective lenses (5,6) are
mounted to the same moving part (12) of the actuator which can focus
and track the disk.  These lenses (5,6) can be utilized to different
optical types of optical disks, such as the difference in the
thickness of the disk.

      With minimum mechanism, this method can obtain multi-functional
optical disk drive.
