Abstract

Disclosed is a method to search multiple Compact Disk-Read Only Memory (CD-ROM) dictionaries and to get user-friendly search results. The result of searching multiple CD-ROMs is indicated by ICONs in the folder window, and it is possible to select which result window is to be opened. This makes it easy to know which dictionary has a result, and avoids the confusion of having many result windows.

Method for Searching Multiple Compact Disk-Read Only Memory Dictionaries

      Disclosed is a method to search multiple Compact Disk-Read
Only Memory (CD-ROM) dictionaries and to get user-friendly search
results.  The result of searching multiple CD-ROMs is indicated by
ICONs in the folder window, and it is possible to select which result
window is to be opened.  This makes it easy to know which dictionary
has a result,  and avoids the confusion of having many result
windows.

      One CD-ROM has several dictionaries.  Also, one personal
computer has multiple CD-ROM drives.  Users want to search all
dictionaries in all CD-ROM drives.  To do this, the user should
change the dictionary in the CD-ROM after searching one dictionary,
and should  change the CD-ROM drives after searching one CD-ROM.  The
disclosed method changes the dictionary after searching one
dictionary automatically, and also changes the CD-ROM drives after
searching all dictionaries in the CD-ROM automatically.  A user can
search all dictionaries of all CD-ROM drives with one action.

      The search result should be displayed to the user.  But it is
confusing to show every search result window at one time.  The
disclosed method simply shows one folder window which lists ICONs
with the dictionary names.  Clicking ICONs shows one search result
window which  has the contents of the search result.  It is easy to
