Real-Time Digital Video Censoring Playback

      Disclosed is a method for encoding digital video with content
information.  At playback time, sections of the video and audio
stream may be skipped or substituted according to threshold
parameters set by  a user.

      Measurements values for commonly offensive content are encoded
into the digital data of a video steam.  Optionally, alternate
digital streams are also available.

      At playback time, the viewer sets the threshold for the
measurement values they want "clipped" from the playback.  When the
player detects a section of video or audio that exceeds the set
threshold, any alternate streams or channels are checked to see if
they can be used.  If an alternate audio channel falls within the
threshold for language content, it is used.  If alternate video falls
within the threshold(s) for visual content it and its audio channels
are substituted.  If no acceptable audio channel is available, the
audio is silenced while the video is played.  If no acceptable video
stream is available, the video is blanked or the entire segment is
skipped depending on user preference.  If both audio and video would
be blanked then the section is skipped to the next segment with
acceptable values.

      The user controls through user preferences whether the
resulting censored video and audio are as complete as possible or as
seamless as possible.
