Abstract

Disclosed is a tool that manages the processing of Program Integrated Information (PII) files for national language translation. The tool will gather and package the PII files and related shipment information for shipment to the translation centers. Once the PII files have been translated and returned, the tool will also receive, unpackage, validate, and return the PII files to development for integration into the product.

Automation of Program Integrated Information File Handling Process

Disclosed is a tool that manages the processing of Program
Integrated Information (PII) files for national language translation.
The tool will gather and package the PII files and related shipment
information for shipment to the translation centers.  Once the PII
files have been translated and returned, the tool will also receive,
unpackage, validate, and return the PII files to development for
integration into the product.

This tool (called PIISHIP) was created to remove the manual
handling of PII files, thus removing the high probability of human
errors, adding repeatability and tracking, and reducing overall
processing time.  The graphical user-interface to PIISHIP (as
illustrated in the Figure) allows even novice users to be able to
process PII shipments.  Extensive checks-and-balances are implemented
to ensure that  processing is completed successfully for all PII
files in the proper processing order.  The definition of specific
product information is managed through a set of control files, thus
reducing the need to modify  the tool's program for each new product.

Creating a PII Shipment

The basic steps to preparing a PII shipment which are supported by
PIISHIP include:
o  Extract the current English PII files from the development
      library control system (called CMVC).
o  Check out the previously translated PII files from CMVC,
preventing development from making any updates to these files
until they are returned after translation.
o  Create a translation instruction document which will provide
the translator detailed technical information about each PII
      file contained in this shipment.
o  Package all of the English PII files together into a single
      file.
o  Package all of the translated PII files together into a single
      file.
o  Verify that all processing necessary to create the complete
PII shipment package has been successfully completed.
o  Package the English single file, the translated single
file, the translation instruction document and any require
translation tools into a single file.  This PII shipment
file is sent to the translation centers.
