      For high speed files there are two basic problems.  First,
the spindle motor volume is limited so that the ohmic losses are
high.  Second, the thermal transfer from the inside of the file to
the cooling air provided outside the file is poor.

      The solution to this problem is to use a standard 1.0 base
casting of the "deep-dish" variety, to which is added a novel cast
cover in place of the standard stamped cover.  This cover extends
from the top of the base casting to the edge of the 1.6 form factor.

      This cover has two features that alleviate the problems of a
high speed file.  First, it has a "hump" over the spindle motor that
allows the use of a 1.6 spindle motor in the 1.0 base casting.  This
reduces the ohmic losses by a factor of 2 to 3 for typical motor
designs.  Second, the 0.6 inches from the top of the 1.0 casting to
the 1.6 form factor limit can be filled in with cooling fins.  This
enhances the transfer of heat from the inside of the file to the
cooling air provided in the installation.
