Abstract

Disclosed is a paper-jam detect mechanism for a document printer. This mechanism is composed of an optical sensor which detects the existence of paper. If this sensor detects no paper even if paper exists at a sensor position, it warns of a paper jam. However, this sensor detects a paper jam incorrectly if there are holes on the paper.

      Disclosed is a paper-jam detect mechanism for a document
printer.  This mechanism is composed of an optical sensor which
detects the existence of paper.  If this sensor detects no paper even
if paper exists at a sensor position, it warns of a paper jam.
However, this sensor detects a paper jam incorrectly if there are
holes on the paper.

      A paper-jam detect sensor watches a paper's existence
periodically.  When a state is not in existence, a counter will be
incremented.  When a state is in existence, and a counter is not
zero, a counter will be decremented.  When a counter exceeds a limit
value, it warns of a paper jam.
