Database2 Performance Monitor in a Sysplex Environment

Disclosed is a concept to map Database 2 Performance Monitor
(DB2 PM) data collectors to a DB2 data sharing group by connecting
the DB2 PM data collectors to a Multiple Virtual Storage (MVS)
sysplex group.

The DB2 instrumentation facility provides trace information
about DB2 on request to a monitor program.  DB2 PM function "data
collector" is a monitor program that collects DB2 trace data for a
single DB2.

With the data sharing function of DB2 for MVS/ESA applications
running on more than one DB2 subsystem, it can read from and write to
the same data concurrently.  DB2 subsystems that share data must
belong to a DB2 data sharing group.  A data sharing group is a
collection of one or more DB2 subsystems accessing shared DB2 data.

To monitor a DB2 data sharing group, it is necessary to get DB2
trace data from all DB2 subsystems.

This requires the connection of all DB2 PM data collectors to a
sysplex group.  Within that group, the DB2 PM data collectors can use
services provided by MVS (sending and receiving messages, watching
group members...) to exchange data (requests and collected DB2 trace
data).

A request for data collection is received by one DB2 PM data
collector only via Advanced Program-to-Program (APPC) interface.  It
distributes the request to all other DB2 PM data collectors in the
sysplex group.  All DB2 PM data collectors now gather the...
